Finland’s first smolt catching device and downstream passage was constructed in the river Lieksanjoki, at the Pankakoski hydropower plant.
The structure enables the migration of trout and salmon smolts from upstream to downstream to the lake Pielinen, where they spend most of their life and thereby secures the survival of the wild population. The project was implemented as a joint venture, where Culmentor was responsible for the construction work together with V-P Toiviainen
